Students from St. Mary’s College participated in a recent conference in Orillia called Re:Action4Inclusion. Re:Action4Inclusion seeks to empower youth to take action individually and collectively to make schools and communities more inclusive spaces.
The Re:Action4Inclusion Movement specifically seeks to raise the consciousness of citizens of Ontario to challenge negative perceptions of disability and believes that society can reach its fullest potential and be the best it can be when people of all diversities and abilities learn to appreciate what individuals can do for one another.
Throughout the weekend, youth advisors coordinated activities that helped participants become more familiar with the movement, foster thoughtful conversations around disability, and enhance the abilities of the larger group to recognize their capacity to transform the schools and communities.
The students will be bringing back their ideas to share with their St. Mary’s College school community. Students who participated were: Sara Dubas, Simone Thibodeau, Julia Niro, Gabbe Zagordo, Aidan Rollin, Aidan Sicoli, Angelo Carchidi, Anthony Delorenzi.
