It was a very special day at the Art Gallery of Algoma as the AGA’s Bondar Challenge Exhibition was unveiled in an invitation only event to Grade 4 and 5 students from various schools in Sault Ste. Marie. Students from Holy Family and St. Basil Catholic Elementary Schools were on hand to see their photographs display in the gallery’s Project Room.
The exhibition is part of a Canada 150 project designed to challenge students to take photos of nature. They were asked by Dr. Roberta Bondar, to talk about why they took their photo and what they would wish would happen in another 150 years time in Canada’s history. Students had a chance to see some of Dr. Bondar’s photographs from various locations in Canada and ask her questions about photography and her time as an astronaut. They also sang Happy Birthday to her as the event came just a few days after her birthday.
The exhibit of the student photographs will be on display until January 6, 2018. It’s unveiling coincided with the last day of the Dr. Bondar’s photography display titled; Light in the Land – the Nature of Canada.
