The annual Heaven Cent campaign celebrated another successful Advent venture.
In the Celebration of Giving on Tuesday at St. Mary’s College it was revealed that $13,180 dollars had been raised in the three week campaign and with donations still rolling in that total is expected to rise.
The Adoption component of the campaign saw students assist individuals and families in need within the SMC community, the Action component saw students visit elementary schools to remind them of what the true meaning of Advent and Christmas is. They also visited nursing homes around the city.
The Celebration of Giving was the highlight of the Alms component. Over the three weeks of Advent, students and staff participated in various activities to raise money for the campaign.
Included among the recipients of donations from the funds raised are; Pauline’s Place, Habitat for Humanity, the YMCA, Women in Crisis, Breaking Away, the Pregnancy Centre, Métis Nation of Ontario, the Elks oncology van, Algoma Autism Foundation, Breton House, St. Vincent Place, THRIVE Children’s Development and the Soup Kitchen Community Centre.
