Perzan Umrigar, a Grade 5 student at Holy Cross Catholic School in Sault Ste. Marie, won the annual Mayor for a Day contest. Perzan had the opportunity to open the September 24 city council meeting. The day also included meeting members of council and assisting in raising the flag for Franco-Ontarian Day.
Perzan’s presentation, which was played at the start of the city council meeting, included an idea to have businesses sponsor sidewalks to assist in keeping them in tip-top shape.
Another perk of Perzan’s win is that the Mayor will reward his class at Holy Cross with a pizza party.
Other HSCDSB students put in presentations in the contest sponsored by Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie North.
