St. Mary’s College is going out in the world to make a difference. Each month students and staff are uniting to support our community and put our faith into action. Our September initiative supported St. Vincent Place’s Big Blue Box Food Drive. The Principles of Catholic Social Teaching encourage us to show a preferential option for the poor and this was a natural fit.
Members of our Knight’s Hockey team and their coach explored the streets of Sault Ste. Marie collecting food that was placed curb side while a second team of students and staff volunteered at St. Jerome’s Church sorting the many food items that came in.
As we focus on ways in which we can live out the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations it is wonderful to provide opportunities where students and staff can support one another on this journey. Saturday’s outreach modeled the expectations of being a collaborative contributor, a caring family member and a responsible citizen. All who participated shared that it was a positive experience. We look forward to having more students and staff join us for our October outreach.
