The Grade 7/8 class at St. Francis French Immersion in Sault Ste. Marie teamed up with Maker North Sault Ste. Marie to bring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) concepts to life.

Students had a classroom tutorial with the Maker North Founders Joe Bertrand and Helen Scott in order to learn how to use TinkerCad; an on an online digital design program. They formed groups to create 3-D designs that aligned with concepts they were learning about in Science. Students then brought their digital designs to Maker North where they saw them come to life by printing them with the 3-D printers.
The grade seven students designed and 3-D printed structures. We will test their creations against different forces in order to measure strength and stability. These are concepts that were taught in the Science unit Structures and Mechanisms.
The grade eight students have been studying Systems in Action. They used TinkerCad to design and construct systems which they presented and explained to their classmates.
