Dance Team Excels

Dance Team at Kick It UP competition

On March 2nd, the St. Mary’s Knights Dance Team, led by teacher moderator Tara Calvano, traveled to Mississauga to compete at the “Kick It Up” Dance Competition.

The team represented their school with class and achieved amazing results competing against a variety of dance studios from across Southern Ontario. Not only were they the only high school dance team, they were also the only group presenting dance routines that were student choreographed.

The SMC Dance Team received one Platinum and four Ultimate Platinum standings. The girls were also presented with a number of special awards and top scoring awards.

Their pre-competitive lyrical group received the “Easy Feel” award for their beautiful movement and emotion. “Best Choreography” was awarded to their contemporary small group, which is a great accomplishment for our student choreographers, Olivia Vecchio, Kiera Czop and Gracie Pucci.

Their competitive lyrical group was awarded a top scoring award for the “3rd Overall Highest Scoring Large Group”. Finally, their competitive jazz routine received the “NSYNC” award for their clean lines and great timing, as well as two top scoring awards; “2nd Overall Highest Scoring Large Group” and the “Highest Scoring Jazz Routine of Competition”.

Congratulations to all dance team members for their amazing performances. A special congratulations also goes out to team captain Olivia Vecchio, co-captain Kiera Czop, as well as co-choreographers Gracie Pucci, Megan Morgenstern and Julia Lemieux. Their maturity, dedication and creative talents resulted in outstanding success for the team.
