The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board is mourning the passing of veteran teacher Maria Francella.
“We were all saddened to learn of Maria’s passing, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and students whose lives she touched,” said Director of Education, Rose Burton Spohn.
“As people of faith, we believe that Maria’s suffering has ended and she is resting in our Lord’s loving embrace.”
Ms. Francella began her fifteen year career with the Board in September of 2003 at St. Mary’s in Blind River. In 2005 she moved back to her hometown of Sault Ste. Marie to teach at Sister Mary Clare. From 2006 to 2011 she taught at the former St. Hubert. After a hiatus she resumed teaching in 2016 at St. Mary’s French Immersion. Her last assignment was at Holy Cross.
Ms. Francella’s colleagues remembered her as a true professional and a terrific person.
“Maria was a thoughtful and kind soul. She had an infectious spirit, an impish smile and a laugh full of sunshine. She loved to teach, loved her students and was always willing to give a helping hand,” said colleague Joanne DeGuire.
“Rest easy my friend. Have a wonderful time with your mother in heaven.”
