On Thursday May 30th and Friday May 31st, students in Grades 5 to 8 from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Blind River, Ontario visited St. Kateri Outdoor Learning Centre for their annual overnight field trip.
This was the first group to stay in the Brescacin Bunkies. The girls shared #1 bunkie and the Grade 7/8 boys were in bunkie #2. The idea originated two years ago when the present 7/8 students were in Grade 5 and they saw the bunkies under construction during a visit. After a long period of anxiously awaiting the opportunity to sleep in the cabins it became real on Thursday evening.
“I was so thankful for the opportunity to have my students sleep in the bunkies. They thought it was just the coolest thing,” said Grade 7/8 teacher, Nadia Zanatta.
“The bunkies were the best part. Staying up all night with my friends was awesome,” said Grade 7 student, Nicholas Riley.
The Brescacin bunkies give the opportunity for classes to enjoy an extended stay, particularly district schools who travel far to visit St. Kateri.
