The Write Stuff

Every year the Royal Canadian Legion hosts a poster, poem and essay contest for all the students along the North Shore.

Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in Elliot Lake is proud of seven of our students who won prizes for their Remembrance Day submissions. These students are also members of the Fatima Mensa Academy Enrichment Program.

Their literary and poster entries were a requirement of the program and these high achieving students have also been learning guitar, taking part in community outreach initiatives, educational field trips, learning French & Ojibwe, completing extra assignments while maintaining an above 75% average and all Es or Gs for learning skills on their Report Cards.  We are very proud of these gifted students who continue to work hard with their academics.

Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School wants to congratulate the following students:

  • Emmalee Hutchinson – 1st Place, Primary Colour Poster
  • Katelynn Sams – 1st Place, Junior Colour Poster
  • Megan Frolick – 1st Place, Intermediate Colour Poster
  • Madlynne Gagne – 1st Place, Intermediate Essay
  • Brooke Jordan – 2nd Place, Intermediate Poetry
  • Alessio DiGenova – 2nd Place, Black and White Primary
  • Adrianna Benevenuti – 3rd Place, Intermediate Colour Poster

These students were recognized with a certificate by the Local Branch of the Legion and a monetary gift.  The Fatima Mensa Academy students will be working on speeches after new year.

Thanks to the Legion for continuing to host these Academic activities and giving students these opportunities to express themselves.
