Dear Parents / Guardians,
We hope this message finds you well.
As a system, we are very concerned with our students’ mental health during these challenging times. With the closure of schools due to COVID-19, the feelings of isolation that come with physical distancing, the transition to online learning and the persistent messages in the media, everyone will react differently.
If you feel your child is struggling, start by visiting our website (www.hscdsb.on.ca). Under the COVID-19 update section there are number of mental health resources and supports, including Kids Help Line (Call 1-800-668-6868 or text CONNECT to 686868).
If you feel your child’s needs exceed the supports on this page, please contact your school principal. Your school principal will forward the request to our Mental Health Leader (Jared Lambert) and the Special Education Co-ordinator (Rosanne Zagordo) who will then determine the best way we can support. We have a number of staff who may be of assistance and we are set up for e-counselling, if this is the best course of action.
Please know that we will do all we can to support our students through this challenging time.
