A Day for Action

We all know that February 14th is St. Valentine’s Day, but it is also an important day of recognition for a serious nation-wide issue.

Traditionally, in Sault Ste. Marie, a vigil is held in front of the courthouse to remember those murdered and missing. This year, due to pandemic protocols and restrictions, a display of art related to this issue will be shown at a storefront at 180 Gore Street.

The National Day of Action on addressing violence against Indigenous women takes place this Sunday, February 14th.

Native-as-a-second language teachers with the board worked with Grade 7 and 8 students to create a poster with one word on it to remember the murdered and missing women and girls.

Please take the time to view this video featuring Neveah Pine’s very powerful oral on the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.
