The pandemic has forced us to do many things differently and this applied to Ash Wednesday as well.
Amanda Langelier, the faith ambassador at Our Lady of Fatima in Chapleau, as well as principal Natalie Tessier, worked together to offer a virtual Ash Wednesday service for staff and students.
Mrs. Langelier organized the readers as well as the technology. Mrs. Tessier, with guidance from Public Health Sudbury and Districts, prepared the ashes from palm fronds that she collected two years ago on Palm Sunday, and brought them to Father Maxwell Ojukwu to be blessed before being transferred into individual containers.
On the day of the service, Father Ojukwu joined virtually, along with the other classes. The students were able to pray collectively and sign themselves with the blessed ashes.
