Virtual Speaker Series Event

The HSCDSB Parent Involvement Committee is offering a Virtual Speakers Series Event on Tuesday, April 20th.

This night will feature three distinct sessions that parents can participate in. To start the evening, at 6 o’clock, the Parent Involvement Committee will introduce itself and provide an overview of the event. The first of the three presentations will begin at 6:15.

Digital Citizenship and Stewardship

  • Being A Digital Citizen
  • Cyber Bullying/Safety

In this session, parents will learn about the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations and how they tie in with Digital Citizenship. This session will focus on how to be a digital citizen when learning and working online, as well as how to identify and deal with cyberbullying. There will also be information about internet safety and tips on how to keep your child(ren) safe while being online.

Mental Health Awareness and Supports

Guest Speaker: Jared Lambert Time: 6:50 – 7:20

Discussion Focus

  • What is mental health?
  • When should we seek out support for mental health issues?
  • Local supports/resources

In this session, parents will learn about the concept of mental health; what it is and why it is important. We will discuss what parents can do to foster strong mental health for themselves and for their children. This session will detail the mental health supports available within the board, as well as some resources available in each community. Discussion will be welcomed regarding this crucial topic.

  • Online programs
  • Activities to engage learning at home

In this session, parents will learn about different activities, games, and online resources that will help support their child’s learning and align with the Ontario Curriculum Expectations. Parents will be able to access a variety of links for many of the different subject areas being taught in the classroom. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and the Google slideshow will be shared with all participants to reference after the presentation.
