The HSCDSB is mourning the passing of former Director of Education, Bill Struk.
Struk became the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in the former Sault Ste. Marie District Roman Catholic Separate School Board (SSMDRCSSB) on August 1, 1970.
In 1975, he moved up to Superintendent of Schools and 1985 Mr. Struk took over the position of Superintendent of Curriculum and Personnel.
On March 15, 1989 Mr. Struk was named Deputy Director of Education of the SSMDRCSSB. On September 1, 1991 he became the Board’s Director of Education.
He retired on December 31, 1997 the day prior to the HSCDSB came into existence.
“Bill was a long time Superintendent of Education as far back as the mid 70’s when I began my teaching career. He was a man of faith, integrity and commitment to Catholic Education. We are grateful for his legacy and leadership,” said HSCDSB Director of Education, John Stadnyk.
He is survived by his wife Gloria and three children.
Visitation takes place at Northwood Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Celebration of Mr. Struk’s like will be held at St. Gerard Majella Church on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Francis Ezenezi officiating. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
