Students and families had the opportunity to celebrate Reading Month this past week at two events. The Mount St. Joseph Centre hosted Camp Out With a Good Book on Tuesday. The night began with the reading of Goose on a Roof by Jennifer Barone, an Early Childhood Educator at Holy Cross in Sault Ste. Marie. Afterwards the students had the opportunity to play games and of course read. The big hit of the night was the students squirrelling themselves away in one of the tents to read by flashlight.
On Wednesday evening the same locale played host to the 5th anniversary celebration of Reading Recovery. The evening featured the opportunity for students to show how much their reading skills have improved due to the initiative that the Board instituted. The photo booth was a particular favourite.
Both nights were great as they gave students, parents and staff an opportunity to mingle in a relaxed atmosphere.
There will be another Reading Month event on March 28. Beach Party with a Book is for students in grades 4, 5 and 6.
