  • Teamwork

Aligned with best-in-class content and concepts practiced by global education thought leaders, The Leader in Me provides a logical, sequential and balanced process to help school proactively design the culture that reflects their vision of the ideal school.

A French Immersion Program will be integrated alongside the standard English Program. The French Immersion program will continue to grow one grade each year until the students graduate from Grade 8.

The French Immersion Program will be delivered on a 50/50 model similar to other HSCDSB French Immersion schools.  Students will receive 150 minutes of French instruction daily.

The subjects that will be taught in French are: French Language, Social Studies, Arts and Physical Education. These subjects allow students to use the language to communicate and interact effectively in French, the other official language.

Native as a Second Language (Ojibwe) will be offered to students from Kindergarten to Grade 8.  Students will learn how to speak, read and write Ojibwe through a variety of resources including, online resources, DVDs, songs, prayers and stories.

A key component of the program is learning about the culture, the history and traditions of the First Peoples of Canada.  Indigenous education is open to anyone who wants to learn more about the First People of Canada.

HSCDSB Hockey Canada Skills Academy LogoThe HSCDSB Hockey Canada Skills Academy is offered at St. Basil Catholic Elementary School to students from Grade 5 to Grade 8. The program is designed to develop the skill set of each student no matter the ability. We accept students from the AAA level to those who have never played before.

The academy is split into three components: on-ice training, dry-land training, and food & nutrition. Students will be on the ice for 120 to 180 minutes a week. Coinciding with the on-ice aspect of the program students will take dry-land training where they will learn proper off-ice exercises that are designed to optimize their performance on the ice. Lastly, students will develop a better understanding of how a nutritious and balanced diet can help with optimum performance.
