St. Mary's College student Chris Rugo was among the winners last night at the SSMARt Innovation Awards hosted by the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre. Rugo was co-recipient of the Innovation Youth of the Year Award which acknowledges an individual up to grade 12 who has made a substantial contribution to the science/technology sector thtough education, volunteering or sheer passion for the industry. Contributions may be made through outstanding achievement ; leadership in the area of science/technology, community involvement, leadership, entrepreneurship and volunteerism.
Chris recently won bronze ad the Skills Ontario Technology competition for a 3D project he and another student put together. He also produced a superb promotional piece for the city regarding its transformation into a green energy leader.
The HSCDSB had two nominations for the Innovation Education of the Year Award. Bill Howe (pictured below with Rugo) was nominated for his efforts in the strong Media Communications Technology course at St. Mary's College.

Four teachers at St. Basil Secondary who are leading the Board's ICCE (Integrated Catholic Computer Education) Program were also nominated. Stephanie Parniak, Lorenzo DiCerbo, Tina Papa and Rose Calcafcuoco were nominated as a team.
