Two Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board schools were rewarded by the local Wal-Mart on consecutive days this week.
On Wednesday, Raymonde Simard, the Grade 6 teacher at St. Theresa Catholic School, was named Teacher of the Year by the local Wal-Mart. Four of her former students nominated Ms. Simard for the award which is handed out annually.
They noted that Ms. Simard was always in a positive frame of mind and was very innovative as well. Along with the award Wal-Mart gives $1,000 to Ms. Simard to use within the school.
On Thursday Wal-Mart representative were at St. Pius X Catholic School to name it the 2012-13 Adopt-A-School recipient.
Students in Mrs. Valente's Grade 1 class put together a presentation booklet outlining why St. Pius X deserved to be "adopted" by Wal-Mart. The students were extremely excited to find out that their school will be able to spend $1,000 at Wal-Mart on anything it needs.
Wal-Mart representatives also presented the school with a gift box of various sporting goods including basketball, soccer and volleyball equipment.
