Sarah Nelson was the youngest recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medal at a recent presentation ceremony at the Royal Canadian Legion.
Nelson, a nine year old Grade 4 student at St. Pius X, was recognized for her fundraising initiative to help out the Algoma Regional Community Hospice (ARCH).
"I just felt very appreciated. I was absolutely speechless," said Sarah.
Sarah opened a baking business called Sarah Bugs Sweettreats after visiting a candy store in Traverse City. Sarah is using half of the proceeds for a college fund with the other half going to ARCH. So far she has sent over $5,000 to the organization which nominated her for the Jubilee Medal.
Sarah says she narrowed her choice down to three charities but selected ARCH "because I understood it most." On her big night Sarah was the only recipient to receive a standing ovation. She also had a chance to meet our MP and MPP. You can check out Sarah's treats at sarahbugssweettreats.ca
