The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board is one of twenty-nine Catholic School Boards in the Province of Ontario. The HSCDSB came into being in 1998 with the amalgamation of the Sault Ste. Marie Separate School Board, Michipicoten Separate School Board and North Shore Catholic Separate School Board. The Board administration offices are located at the Catholic Education Centre in Sault Ste. Marie.
The HSCDSB is one of the largest school Boards in Ontario in terms of geography. The distance from our easternmost school in Espanola to our nothernmost in Hornepayne is 654 kilometres. Overall, the Board encompasses an area of over 55 thousand square kilometres. Our shared heritage as Northern Ontarians has allowed the Board to overcome some of the challenges this vast geography brings.
With the addition of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School in Hornepayne on September 1, 2009 the HSCDSB boasts twenty-six schools; twenty-three elementary and three secondary. All three secondary schools are situated in Sault Ste. Marie. The HSCDSB employs over eleven hundred people and serves over 5,800 students. Modernization of our schools is ongoing under the Good Places to Learn Initiative.
The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board is proud to continue the long standing tradition of Catholic education in Ontario.
