POSITION: Maintenance Helper

LOCATION: Various school board facilities in Sault Ste. Marie                                                                                                               (with occasional travel through the jurisdiction of the School Board)

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours/week

SALARY: $26.97/hour

EFFECVTIVE DATE:  Immediately 

Under the direction of the Plant Maintenance Coordinator, the Maintenance Helper will perform minor maintenance minor repairs, installations, and inspections at schools and board facilities

DUTIES:

  • Perform minor repairs to interior and exterior building components and equipment
  • Assist maintenance carpenter with a variety of tasks including but not limited to the following:
    • Stairs and stair railings
    • Cladding and sheathing
    • Flooring and Baseboards
    • Installation of school fixtures including TVs, Smartboards and projectors, washroom partitions, shelving, cabinetry, gym and workout fixtures
    • Painting and staining
  • Perform weekly, monthly and annual inspection of equipment
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs and maintenance to snowblowers, steam cleaners, floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums
  • Investigate leaks – roof, plumbing, building envelope and report back to supervisor
  • Investigate HVAC and electrical problems and report back to supervisor
  • May be assigned other duties within the job description.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of grade 12 or GED equivalency
  • One year of previous job experience in repair and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and machines
  • Physical capability to perform all aspects of the job
  • Valid class “G” driver’s licence

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in the field.
