POSITION: Reading Intervention Special Assignment Teacher

LOCATION: Various schools within the Board’s jurisdiction

EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately

September 2024 (NOTE: this position is for the 2024-2025 school year. The successful applicants will have the option to return to their current placement at the end of the school year, if they choose).

The Board is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, creative, organized and professional Catholic educator/leader who is able to work effectively with the staffs, students, parents, and communities in the board’s jurisdiction. The focus of this position is to provide evidence-based reading intervention for students who have self-identified as Indigenous.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Qualifications in primary division
  • Religious Education in Catholic Schools, Part 1
  • Specialized expertise in scientific, evidence-based literacy instruction that emphasizes foundational knowledge and skills, as well as training in providing direct Tier 2 and Tier 3 reading interventions
  • An awareness and experience with evidence-based assessments that inform intensity, duration and frequency of instruction, to assist the student in developing the required foundational skills
  • Expertise in a comprehensive approach to systematic and tiered literacy instruction, incorporating Universal Design for Learning and differentiated instruction at Tier 1, targeted instruction of moderate intensity in the classroom at Tier 2, and most intensive and individualized Tier 3 instruction supports
  • Experience working with teachers to monitor progress towards improvement targets and supporting them to adapt instruction
  • Knowledge of and experience in teaching the Ontario Language curriculum
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the board’s jurisdiction, as required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Religious Education in Catholic Schools, Specialist
  • Special Education Part 1
  • able to demonstrate knowledge of Indigenous traditional teachings, cultures, perspectives, values, and history and to integrate this knowledge into support and practice
  • Knowledge of the history of Indigenous Peoples of Canada and experience supporting Indigenous Learners
