POSITION: Secondary Librarian (Non-Union)

LOCATION: St. Mary’s College, Sault Ste. Marie, ON

START DATE: December 2022

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $45,420 to $47,317 (40 weeks annually)

This is a full-time non-union position. The board is seeking a dynamic individual to assist in the efficient daily operations of Library services at SMC. The successful candidate will be scheduled 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, and may provide any of the following services:

  • Maintenance of individual school resource collections, including purchasing of all print, non-print and audio-video resources, cataloguing materials, the circulation of library materials (sign-out, return, renewal) and conducting annual inventory
  • Oversight of the physical collection and circulation duties
  • Liaising with publishers and vendors regarding subscriptions, invoices, and password management
  • Contributing to and collaborating on projects to provide innovative information services and products that support the evolving needs of the school library
  • Assisting with the acquisition and evaluation of existing resources
  • Providing information services and participating in the development of information tools at the school and board level
  • Assisting in the monitoring and planning/preparation of annual estimates for school library needs
  • Issuing overdue notices, compiling lists of overdue materials and users with materials owing
  • Serving students, including library and research skills instruction and maintaining routines and rules in the library
  • Organizing, planning, conducting, operating, and evaluating individual programs, events, and other promotional activities related to school libraries
  • Maximizing use of social networking tools, blogs and other online resources to reach the target audience (teen/young adult)
  • Assisting patrons with resources and reference materials as required
  • Undertaking special projects and other duties as assigned

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills, experiences, and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Librarian Technician/Library and Information Studies degree/diploma or related post-secondary education
  • 1-2 years professional experience in a library setting
  • Experience working with databases
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Slides)
  • Familiarity with computer hardware and audio visual equipment, including the ability to conduct preventative maintenance and troubleshoot issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with and providing service to students and patrons
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as within a team environment
  • Ability to submit a satisfactory Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check prior to the commencement of employment duties
