LOCATION:  Face to Face or Virtual, Sault Ste. Marie; Virtual, North and East Communities

SCHEDULE:  June to August 31, 2023

RATE OF PAY:  $37.09/hour

Under the direction of the Superintendent responsible for special education, summer program administrators, and in consultation with the Mental Health Leader, the Student and Family Counsellor will function as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing support services to students and families through consultation/assessment, crisis intervention, counselling, attendance investigation, community liaison/networking, prevention programming, professional development and child/family advocacy. Students participating in various summer programs, those currently on counsellor caseloads and any students experiencing a crisis during the summer may be provided service.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Relevant graduate or undergraduate degree (e.g. BSW, MSW, Master in Counselling, etc.)
  • Registered member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in the field
  • Solid understanding of concurrent needs that would impact a student’s overall wellbeing as well as learning differences such as Autism and intellectual disabilities
  • Experience and comfort in working and counselling both face-to-face and virtually (over a secure platform)
  • Experience working with children/youth experiencing social/emotional difficulties
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a multidisciplinary team
  • Good computer skills, including MS office, virtual meeting software
  • Excellent discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Familiarity with the Ministry’s mental health and addictions strategies
  • Familiarity with various evidence-based approaches is considered an asset


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in providing counselling services from an evidence informed practice perspective
  • Experience working with schools and/or learners at the elementary or secondary school level
  • Knowledge of the history of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada and experience supporting Indigenous learners
