Reporting to the Superintendent of Education responsible for Health and Safety, the Health and Safety Officer will work collaboratively with all schools and departments of the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board in addressing the board’s Health and Safety requirements. The Officer will be responsible for all facets of maintaining a compliant and proactive approach to Health and Safety within the organization. The Officer will work in close collaboration with administration to assess and work towards continued improvement of the effectiveness and efficiency of all areas within the scope of Health and Safety.

Mount St. Joseph Catholic Education Centre (90 Ontario Ave, Sault Ste. Marie, ON)
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills, experiences and attributes:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science, Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial Hygiene is preferred.
- Minimum of two years related experience in a role where Health and Safety is the primary responsibility.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professionals Certification considered an asset.
- Critical thinking, conflict management and project management skills would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability using a consultative and collaborative approach in Health and Safety working relationships.
- Experience in preparing and delivering relevant training for employees considered an asset.
- Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset.
- High motivation to champion a positive safety culture at the board.
- In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act, WSIB and associated legislation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Excel, experience working with electronic databases, and ability to work well in a virtual environment is essential.
- Must be a strong team player with the ability to display diplomacy and assertiveness.
- Excellent leadership, collaboration, facilitation and negotiation skills with high self-confidence, the ability to manage conflict and demonstrate empathy.
- Effective communicator in working with all levels at the school board.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments and prioritize activities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability and desire to work effectively as a team player and promote teamwork.
SALARY RANGE: $70,093 – $77,519
