The board’s Parent Involvement Committee is excited to present another Virtual Speaker Series in April.

The committee feels the subjects of these four events will be very useful to parents and ultimately all students.

Virtual Speakers Series Event Dates

April 7, April 11, April 21, April 25

(Each session will run from 6:00 – 7:00 PM)

All parents are invited to attend these events.  Feel free to sign up for all four events.

Session #1 - April 7

Parent Involvement in Catholic School Communities

Guest Speaker: Tony & Linda Barone and Father Daniele Masculino

Discussion Focus:

– Ways parents can support their child’s Catholic education

– Parent Involvement: Where to start? 

– Benefits of Parent Involvement and Student Success

Special Note:

Each participant will receive a special gift, which highlights our Catholic Faith.

Session #2 - April 11

Mental Health Awareness & Supports for All Ages

Guest Speaker: Jared Lambert

Discussion Focus:

– Focus on children’s mental health and well-being 

– Provide awareness, resources, and supports

– Focus on parents of children with mental health

– Focus on parents struggling with their own mental health

Special Note:

Each participant will receive a package including a pamphlet with resources and a small gift related to mental health.

Session #3 - April 21

Building Identity & Relationships in Indigenous Education

Guest Speaker: Joanna Meawasige Vautour 

Discussion Focus:

– Education in the home

– Wellbeing

– Taking up space

Special Note:

Participants will be provided with smudge kits and will have the opportunity to engage in a virtual smudge – understanding the components and symbolism associated.

Session #4 - April 25

Online Safety Information Session for Parents

 

Guest Speaker: Detective Sergeant Jack Rice  Technological Crime Unit – Sault Ste. Marie Police Department 

Discussion Focus:

– Online safety information to help parents keep their children safe while online  

Special Note:

Each participant will receive a package including helpful information regarding online safety and a small token of appreciation related to the Huron-Superior Catholic D.S.B.
