{"id":12201,"date":"2022-02-02T13:18:55","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T18:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/polite-rate.flywheelsites.com\/hscdsbtest\/?post_type=news&#038;p=12201"},"modified":"2022-02-02T13:21:17","modified_gmt":"2022-02-02T18:21:17","slug":"school-upgrade-projects","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.hscdsb.on.ca\/hscdsbtest\/news\/school-upgrade-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"School Upgrade Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"12201\" class=\"elementor elementor-12201\" data-elementor-post-type=\"news\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-2c42654 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"2c42654\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-4d838f6\" data-id=\"4d838f6\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bf3fd6a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bf3fd6a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board\u2019s Multi-Year Strategic Plan lists <i>Equitable Stewardship of our Resources<\/i> as one of its strategic directions.\u00a0 Utilizing our resources responsibly, justly, responsively and wisely is at the forefront of fulfilling this goal.\u00a0 For the years 2021-2022 the board allocated just over $5 million to upgrades at six elementary schools and another $700 thousand in general maintenance of its schools.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 1em; letter-spacing: 0px;\">\u201cWe are pleased to be able to utilize provincial and federal government funding for these projects that will enhance the experience of staff and students at these six elementary schools.\u00a0 We are confident that upgrading our facilities in these important ways will\u00a0lead to positive outcomes,\u201d said Director of Education, Rose Burton Spohn.<\/span><\/p><p><strong>East Schools<\/strong><\/p><p>The largest project will be $1.3 million going to upgrades to the ventilation system and for energy efficient LED lighting at St. Mary\u2019s Catholic School in Blind River.<\/p><p>\u201cThe ventilation upgrade will greatly improve air circulation and quality providing a healthier atmosphere for students and staff.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Conversion to LED lighting will lead to improved lighting levels and result in substantial energy savings and maintenance costs,\u201d said Plant Services Manager, Steven Brown.<\/p><p>In Elliot Lake, another extensive project, with a budget of $1.2 million, will take place at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School.\u00a0 Three classrooms will be converted to two JK\/SK rooms with a common washroom between, new ceilings, LED lighting, flooring and millwork. Also included in the project is an exterior fenced play area with rubberized play surface, asphalt track, shade structures, and storage shed.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The school\u2019s breakfast room will also be relocated to make way for the FDK rooms.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Our Lady of Lourdes French Immersion in Elliot Lake has already seen a new bus bay and parking lot created to increase safety for staff and students.\u00a0 Cost for that project was $690,000.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>North Schools<\/strong><\/p><p>Ventilation upgrades will also be the focus at three northern schools.\u00a0 At St. Augustine French Immersion in Wawa, $520,000 has been allotted for improvements to the ventilation system.\u00a0 In White River, $600,000 has been budgeted for ventilation and barrier free upgrades at St. Basil Catholic School.\u00a0 The board has allotted $720,000 for ventilation and barrier-free upgrades at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in Chapleau.<\/p><p>\u201cAll of these projects will greatly\u00a0enhance air quality for staff and students and save money in energy costs. \u00a0The barrier-free upgrades are another step in improving\u00a0accessibility at all of our facilities,\u201d said Brown.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p><p>Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, some board projects have experienced delays and cost increases.\u00a0 With this in mind the Plant Department has a contingency of almost a million dollars related to these projects.\u00a0 It is hoped that all of these projects proceed on time and within budget.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board\u2019s Multi-Year Strategic Plan lists Equitable Stewardship of our Resources as one of its strategic directions.\u00a0 Utilizing our resources responsibly, justly, responsively and wisely is at the forefront of fulfilling this goal.\u00a0 For the years 2021-2022 the board allocated just over $5 million to upgrades at six elementary schools and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":11949,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":[],"class_list":["post-12201","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
