Concussion awareness, prevention, identification and management are a priority for the board.<\/p><p><strong>Concussion Awareness Resources<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/site13659.gowizhost.com\/hscdsbtest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Concussion-Awareness-Resource-Ages-10-and-Under.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Age 10 and Under<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/site13659.gowizhost.com\/hscdsbtest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Concussion-Awareness-Resource-Ages-11-to-14.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Age 11 to 14<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/site13659.gowizhost.com\/hscdsbtest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Concussion-Awareness-Rescource-Ages-15-and-up.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Age 15 and Over<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-830b6b0 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"830b6b0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-815150a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"815150a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Code of Conduct<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ed8131d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ed8131d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">for Athletes &amp;Parents\/Guardians of athletes under 18<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-52928e4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"52928e4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>I will help prevent concussions by:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Wearing the proper equipment for my sport and wearing it correctly.<\/li><li>Developing my skills and strength so that I can participate to the best of my ability.<\/li><li>Respecting the rules of my sport or activity.<\/li><li>My commitment to fair play and respect for all (respecting other athletes, coaches, team<br \/>trainers and officials).<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>I will care for my health and safety by taking concussions seriously, and I understand<\/strong><br \/><strong>that:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>A concussion is a brain injury that can have both short- and long-term effects.<\/li><li>A blow to my head, face or neck, or a blow to the body that causes the brain to move<br \/>around inside the skull may cause a concussion.<\/li><li>I don\u2019t need to lose consciousness to have had a concussion.<\/li><li>I have a commitment to concussion recognition and reporting, including self-reporting of<br \/>possible concussion and reporting to a designated person when and individual suspects<br \/>that another individual may have sustained a concussion. (Meaning: If I think I might<br \/>have a concussion I should stop participating in further training, practice or competition<br \/>immediately, or tell an adult if I think another athlete has a concussion).<\/li><li>Continuing to participate in further training, practice or competition with a possible<br \/>concussion increases my risk of more severe, longer lasting symptoms, and increases<br \/>my risk of other injuries.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>I will not hide concussion symptoms. I will speak up for myself and others.<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>I will not hide my symptoms. I will tell a coach, official, team trainer, parent or another<br \/>adult I trust if I experience any symptoms of concussion.<\/li><li>If someone else tells me about concussion symptoms, or I see signs they might have a<br \/>concussion, I will tell a coach, official, team trainer, parent or another adult I trust so they<br \/>can help.<\/li><li>I understand that if I have a suspected concussion, I will be removed from sport and that I will not be able to return to training, practice or competition until I undergo a medical \u00a9 2019 Ophea | Ontario Physical Activity Safety Standards in Education assessment by a medical doctor or nurse practitioner and have been medically cleared to return to training, practice or competition.<\/li><li>I have a commitment to sharing any pertinent information regarding incidents of removal<br \/>from sport with the athlete\u2019s school and any other sport organization with which the<br \/>athlete has registered* (Meaning: If I am diagnosed with a concussion, I understand that<br \/>letting all of my other coaches and teachers know about my injury will help them support<br \/>me while I recover.)<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>I will take the time I need to recover, because it is important for my health.<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>I understand my commitment to supporting the Return to School process.<\/li><li>I understand I will have to be medically cleared by a medical doctor or nurse practitioner<br \/>before returning to physical activity.<\/li><li>I will respect my coaches, team trainers, parents, health-care professionals, and medical<br \/>doctors and nurse practitioners, regarding my health and safety.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>I will help prevent concussions, through my:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Commitment to zero-tolerance for prohibited play that is considered high risk for causing<br \/>concussions.<\/li><li>Acknowledgement of mandatory expulsion from competition for violating zero-tolerance<br \/>for prohibited play that is considered high risk for causing concussions (Meaning: I will<br \/>be disqualified\/expelled from play if I violate the zero-tolerance policy).<\/li><li>Acknowledgement of the escalating consequences for those who repeatedly violate the<br \/>Concussion Code of Conduct.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In accordance with Ministry of Education Memorandum No. 158, 2018 \u2013 School Board Policies on Concussion, and Bill 193 \u2013 Rowan\u2019s Law (Concussion Safety) March 7, 2018, the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board recognizes any concussion as a serious injury which requires appropriate follow-up measures to reduce risk of potential additional injury.
