Dear HSCDSB Families,

We hope you had a safe, restful and memorable summer.  A new school year is days away and we are very excited to welcome all new and returning students, and their families, to our Catholic school communities.

Over the summer many employees have been working hard to ensure the 2022-2023 school year gets off to a great start.  Our Plant Department Staff have been working vigorously to ensure all of our schools are clean, refreshed and ready for your arrival.  We sincerely appreciate their efforts over the past two months.  Our Information Technology Department has also been busy for the past two months enhancing and preparing our internet structures to ensure your child will have access to modern technology.

Opening Day

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 6.

Staff will begin the 2022-2023 school year with a Professional Activity Day on Thursday, September 1.  Friday, September 2 is a board holiday.

Schools often have varied start times.  To find out your school start and dismissal times click here.

Should you have any questions about opening day, please reach out to your school for any questions you might have.  School contact information can be found here; https://www.hscdsb.on.ca/schools/

Late Registration

It is never too late to register your child at your neighbourhood Catholic school.  Find out which school your child will be attending by visiting https://www.hscdsb.on.ca/schools/.

The most efficient method of registration is through our online option.  Visit our website to begin the process. https://www.hscdsb.on.ca/board/registration/.  If you encounter issues with online registration or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call us at 705-945-5400.

All Schools will be open on Monday, August 29 to help set up your child’s registration.

Health & Safety

On the advice of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, masks will not be required for students, staff and visitors in schools, school board offices, or on student transportation.  With this in mind, our Catholic school communities will ensure a respectful, welcoming and inclusive environment for individuals who choose to wear a mask.  The board will continue to provide free high-quality masks for students and staff, and eye protection for staff, if they choose to use them.

School boards will also continue to have access to rapid antigen tests to be used in accordance with provincial testing guidance.  It is recommended that staff, students and visitors continue to self-screen every day before attending school using the online Covid-19 school and child care screening tool

Transportation

If your child will be taking the bus to school you can confirm with the Algoma & Huron-Superior Transportation Services (AHSTS) which bus your child will on by visiting; https://ahsts.ca/en/busing/.  All busing inquiries should be made to AHSTS.

We are so excited to kick off the 2022-2023 school year.   We will honour the privilege of educating all of our students in a safe, inclusive and faith-filled environment.  We graciously thank you for entrusting the care and education of your children to our board.  We put such value and treasure each and every one of our students and look forward to growing with them and with you in another amazing school year.
