Congratulations SMC Graduates!

As you know, graduation from secondary school marks a significant milestone in your life.  It’s hard to believe that just four years ago, you entered high school.  As your principal, know that I am proud of you, and I am honoured to have been a part of your SMC experience.  You are an amazing group of young and talented adults…… You exemplify what it means to be a Catholic graduate of St. Mary’s College.  As you move on beyond the walls and halls of St. Mary’s College into your future, remember to always live by our motto: Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge.

Goodness is first.  Always strive to lead a life centered on good judgment, wisdom, and principles.  These principles guide you in making decisions of all kinds.  Ultimately, goodness is the ultimate characteristic of a humble person.

Discipline is second.  As a student this is defined as having strong character and maintaining self-control in your life with everyone and in all situations.  A disciplined person is able then to teach others by inspiring and modeling appropriate behaviors.

Knowledge is last.  While knowledge is necessary it cannot and must not be the primary source of your identity.  It should not define a person, rather, it should encourage you to constantly learn and grow to be open to new experiences and challenges.

Finally, I’d like to share with you “A Knight’s Prayer”:

Father, as Your gracious children, we reflect with humility upon the many gifts You have given us.

As Knights, we are called to provide for the less fortunate and instill hope in their hearts.

Helps us to appreciate the privilege of learning and growing in our SMC community. May we strive to be our absolute best each day in the hopes of one day transforming the future.

Protect the members of our SMC family and guide us to be loyal and trustworthy friends. Let our welcoming spirit shine brightly through the hallways of St. Mary’s College and beyond.

You have given us the wonderous gift of our Earth and all the blessings it has to offer. Grant us the wisdom to understand that the decisions we make today, affect our tomorrow.

Continue to bless us with the freedom to live out our Catholic faith and openly express our adoration for You. We are eternally thankful for being made in Your image. May we always portray the spirit of divinity that lies within each of us.

Excellence in academics, arts and athletics define St. Mary’s College. Remind us to cherish the memories of yesterday and reflect on the message our forefathers have taught us: Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge.

Amen

Best of luck in all your future endeavours, graduates.

Stay safe always and may God bless you.
