A generous donation from the staff of St. Basil Catholic Elementary School will go a long way toward assisting students and families in need across the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board.

Staff members donated $1,700 to the Helping Hands/Caring Hearts fund created by the Catholic Principals’ Council of Ontario (CPCO) Huron-Superior chapter.

“I gratefully accept this generous donation from the staff at St. Basil in Sault Ste. Marie.  This financial support will allow us to continue the great work Helping Hands/Caring Hearts

fulfills, through assisting families across our school communities,” said local CPCO President, Corey Gardi.

Since 2012 the Helping Hands/Caring Hearts has raised over $85,000, and distributed over $72,000, to help with any financial burdens for less fortunate students and families with the HSCDSB.  The goal is the allow students who may be in financial need to enhance their education in the classroom and through extra-curricular programs.  Schools or individuals may receive up to a maximum of $300 with thousands of students and families receiving assistance over the past thirteen years.

“Each year the staff collects money through dress down days. We chose to donate this years’ funds to Helping Hands/Caring Hearts, as it helps those in need in our local school communities,” said St. Basil teacher, Amy Tolin.
