The Board is seeking Educational Assistants (both Special Education Assistants and Early Years Assistants) for its casual, on-call lists.

Under the supervision of the school principal, the education assistant performs a variety of duties to support student(s) within a school setting.

LOCATIONS: Various schools in:

  • Blind River
  • Elliot Lake
  • Espanola 
  • Massey
  • Chapleau
  • Hornepayne
  • Wawa
  • White River
  • Sault Ste. Marie

KEY DUTIES:

  • Supports assigned students with behavioural, communication, intellectual, physical, and/or multiple exceptionalities—one-on-one, small group, mainstream, co-op program, and/or special education classroom
  • Implements special program for assigned students with Individual Education Plans provided by classroom teacher and learning resource teacher—academic, activity-based learning, and life skills
  • Guides students with materials and activities
  • Operates functional devices such as chairs, lifts, standers
  • Guides, monitors, and directs assigned students during arrival and departure, indoor and outdoor school activities, field trips, washroom routines, lunchtime activities, dressing, and other personal/self-care activities to ensure safety and well-being

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One of:
    • Child and Youth Care Diploma
    • Developmental Service Worker Diploma
    • Early Childhood Education Diploma
    • Personal Support Worker Diploma
    • Teacher’s Aide Certificate
    • Relevant experience working with students with special needs
  • Ability to work and relate effectively with children
  • Capable of performing lifting and restraining

RATE OF PAY:

$28.97/hour – Special Education Assistant
$26.05/hour – Early Years Assistant
