Early registration helps us determine the number of classrooms needed, ensuring each one is well-equipped, resourced, and staffed for a smooth, well-prepared start to the year for students and teachers alike. Early registration ensures we’re ready to provide children with an enriching, supportive, and joyful introduction to school where they can learn, grow, and thrive.
Knowing enrolment numbers in advance allows us to assess our students’ needs and arrange additional resources, such as specialized staff, early childhood educators, and classroom aides, to support children with diverse learning needs. We like to think of it as getting the school ready for the child.
Early registration gives families time to participate in school orientation events, meet teachers, and get familiar with the school environment. This helps ease any first-day jitters, making the transition to kindergarten exciting and positive for both children and parents.
With early registration, our schools can connect with families sooner, share important information, and provide resources that prepare children for school. Early communication builds a strong foundation of trust and involvement, contributing to each child’s long-term success.
Kindergarten is a significant milestone, and being prepared makes all the difference. Early registration allows teachers to plan welcoming activities that help each child adjust socially, emotionally, and academically, creating a secure and nurturing learning environment.
There are many unique aspects of a faith-based education that integrate values with academics.
Catholic schools promote the development of moral values grounded in faith, which some parents view as an advantage for their child’s character development.
Faith-based schools often highlight the strong sense of community that comes from shared beliefs and values. This can foster a supportive environment where students feel they belong.
Catholic schools provide opportunities for faith formation, including prayer, learning about the sacraments, and religious education. For families seeking a faith-based environment, this can be an attractive feature.
Many Catholic schools aim to blend academic rigour with a purpose-driven approach, encouraging students to contribute to society in meaningful ways.
Catholic education frequently emphasizes social justice, encouraging students to be actively involved in community service and aware of their responsibilities to others.
Catholic schools work to strengthen home, school and parish connections. We are all part of the much larger, Universal Catholic Church.
Kindergarten at HSCDSB is a warm and welcoming environment designed to nurture young learners as they take their first steps into school life. Our program emphasizes inquiry-based learning, fostering creativity, curiosity, and a love for learning in a safe and inclusive space. With a focus on social, emotional, and academic development, we ensure that each child feels supported and ready to thrive.
We want our students and families to feel confident and excited about starting school. To prepare children for a smooth transition, we provide families with the opportunity to participate in a Welcome to Kindergarten event, where they can meet the staff and become familiar with the school and their classroom. This helps build a sense of familiarity and trust, easing any anxieties. Those who register early may receive additional invitations to school events such as BBQs and concerts, so that they develop a sense of belonging in their new school community. Additionally, every new Kindergarten student receives a special welcome package. This package includes materials and resources to introduce them to school life, spark enthusiasm, and help parents prepare for the upcoming school year.
By creating these early connections and providing supportive tools, we ensure that each child’s journey into Kindergarten is a positive and successful experience.
The schools are a great resource and help new families register for kindergarten. If they are new to Canada, Multilingual Learner Teachers can assist parents with paperwork, especially when there is a language barrier. Families can email newtocanada@hscdsb.on.ca or ask the school for assistance, and the board will support them through the entire registration process.
No, you do not need to be Catholic to register for Kindergarten at the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board. We warmly welcome families of all faiths and backgrounds to join our school community, as we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for every student.
Almost all of our schools have access to a before and after school programs, depending on availability. Parents are encouraged to visit our Child Care Services page for a list of programs and providers. They can contact the provider directly to inquire about pricing and availability.
