Board Mourns
The Board extends its deepest condolences and prayers to the family of Denise Colizza, who passed into God’s loving arms on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
Denise was a dedicated educator for over 20 years, renowned for her immense heart and unwavering commitment to her students. Her profound impact on our school community was remarkable, as her energy lit up every room she entered.
Her loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her, especially the many family members who are also part of our board.
Throughout her distinguished career with HSCDSB, Denise served as both a teacher and the longstanding Curriculum Coordinator for Kindergarten to Grade 6. She was instrumental in developing innovative teaching strategies and educational programs that fostered a love for learning among her students.
Her dedication to professional development and mentorship shaped the lives of countless students and the careers of many teachers. Denise was a champion of inclusive education, always striving to create a welcoming environment where every child could thrive. Her passion for education inspired her colleagues and left a lasting legacy in our schools.
Denise leaves behind a large and loving family, including her husband, Sam Colizza, former Manager of the Plant Department, and her five children: Jennifer Maninos (Teacher at St. Mary’s French Immersion) and Julia Neveau (Teacher at St. Basil). She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren, some of whom attend SMFI and St. Basil. Denise will also be missed by her niece, Rosa Pavoni (Teacher at St. Paul’s), niece, Christine Pavoni (Teacher at St. Mary’s College) and her sister-in-law, Nancy Iacco (EA at Our Lady of Lourdes).
May the eternal light of Christ shine on Denise.
