HSCDSB Elects New Leadership for Board of Trustees
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. (Nov. 14, 2024) – The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) has elected its new leadership for the Board of Trustees. During the monthly meeting held on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at the Mount St. Joseph Catholic Education Centre, Sandra Turco was newly elected as Chairperson, while John Bruno was re-elected as Vice-Chairperson.
At the heart of the Board’s work is a commitment to providing a nurturing, faith-filled environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and spiritually. The newly elected leadership team shares this vision, bringing a collaborative approach to advancing HSCDSB’s core goals of student success, well-being, and equity.
“I am honoured to step into this role as Chairperson for the second time and to have the trust of my fellow Trustees,” said Sandra Turco. ” Our students are at the centre of everything we do, and I look forward to working with the Board to ensure we are making the best possible decisions for their education, growth, and well-being. Together, we will continue to strengthen our Catholic community and enhance the quality of education for every child we serve.”
Vice-Chairperson John Bruno echoed this student-focused commitment, stating, “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as Vice-Chair, and I am excited to work alongside the Chairperson and Trustees. Our role is to listen, support, and make decisions that positively impact our students’ learning experiences. I am deeply committed to helping every student feel valued and empowered to reach their full potential in our Catholic schools.”
The HSCDSB Board of Trustees is guided by the Board’s strategic directions: success and well-being of students, engagement with employees and partners, nurturing Catholic faith, and equitable stewardship of recourses. The newly elected Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson will play a vital role in supporting these priorities, helping to drive initiatives that promote academic excellence, student well-being, and faith development.
“I am thrilled to congratulate our new Chairperson, Sandra Turco, and Vice-Chairperson, John Bruno, on their roles. I look forward to working closely with them as we journey together in faith and learning, committed to providing the highest quality Catholic education for our students,” said Fil Lettieri, Director of Education. “With the dedication of our trustees and student trustees, our Board of Trustees is well-prepared for success. I am confident that a bright future lies ahead as we continue to shape the vision and direction of our school board for the benefit of our community. I also want to thank our previous Chair, Trustee Trembinski, for his support and guidance, particularly as I transitioned into the role of Director in July.”
