POSITION:                         Behaviour Intervention Program (BIP) Classroom Teacher

LOCATION:                        St. Basil, Sault Ste. Marie, ON

EFFECTIVE DATE:             March 2025 – June 2025

 

SCHEDULE:                         Note: This position is for the 2024-2025 school year. The successful applicants will have the option to return to their current placement at the end of the school year, if they choose.

The Board is looking for a teacher who is a strong communicator, has strong interpersonal skills and has at least 3 years experience working with students who require extensive support in self-regulation.  Reporting to the Principal, the Behaviour Intervention Program (BIP) classroom teacher will provide educational programming to support students in their academics, and in the development of self-regulation, and social skills.

The key responsibilities of the Behaviour Intervention Program classroom teacher are:

  1. Educational Programming:
  • Focus on developing students’ self-regulation and social skills.
  • Provide academic interventions to support literacy and numeracy growth.
  1. Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the Special Education Department’s multi-disciplinary team; primarily the Autism and Behaviour Advisor and Behaviour Coaches.
  • Ensure that the Individual Education Plan (IEP) is implemented with necessary accommodations and modifications.
  1. Leadership and Communication:
  • Lead case conferences and IEP-related meetings, including IPRC meetings.
  • Liaise with other Special Education Department staff to ensure coordinated support.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Primary/Junior Division Qualifications
  • Special Education, Part 1

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Special Education Specialist
  • Religious Education, Part 1
  • Skill in differentiated instruction would be an asset
  • Prior experience supporting students with special education needs, particularly those with self-regulation concerns

This role requires a high level of organization, communication, and collaboration to ensure that students receive the appropriate support to thrive academically and socially.
