POSITION: Communicative Disorders Assistant

LOCATION: Required to travel to Thessalon, Blind River, Elliot Lake, Massey and Espanola

ANNUALIZED SALARY: $64,401 – $70,576

EFFECTIVE DATE: October 2023

Reporting to the Special Education Curriculum Coordinator and under the guidance and supervision of the school board’s Speech-Language Pathologist, the successful candidate will be required to conduct speech and language screenings and deliver a range of assigned intervention programs to support students’ speech and language needs. The Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) will also participate as an integral member of a dedicated interdisciplinary team in cooperation with school staff, outside professionals and families in addressing students’ speech and language needs through modeling of oral language strategies and the effective use of augmentative and alternative communication systems. The CDA will also be responsible for creating classroom visuals/resources and therapy materials.

NOTE: This position is established in partnership with the Algoma District School Board (ADSB) to serve schools in their East district. Half of the position will involve carrying out services in ADSB schools. While doing so, the CDA will report to the Special Education System Administrator and work under the guidance and supervision of their Speech-Language Pathologists.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Communicative Disorders Assistant Certificate preferred and/or a minimum of one year experience working as support personnel under the guidance of a Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Post-secondary diploma and/or degree
  • Experience with providing group and individual interventions to children and youth
  • Experience in a school setting
  • Possess excellent communication/interpersonal skills
  • Possess ability to function successfully as part of a team
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have access to a vehicle
