POSITION: Continuing Education – Summer Multilingual Learners Teacher(s)

LOCATION: To be determined

SCHEDULE: Bank of hours to be used (up to a total of 100) between July 2, 2026, and August 29, 2026

RATE OF PAY: $57.98/hour

Reporting to the Superintendent of Education responsible for International Education and Multilingual Learners, the successful candidate will provide educational guidance and support services to newcomer students and their families. This special assignment teacher will be required to administer the STEP (Steps to English Proficiency) assessment and work collaboratively with the Sault Community Career Centre. The successful candidate will also assist students with their transition to school and provide support to our Multilingual Learners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaison with community partners (e.g., Sault Community Career Centre)
  • Supporting families in understanding their child’s learning in an Ontario school context
  • Administer the STEP assessment to newcomer students
  • Assess and evaluate the progress of newcomer students and provide literacy and numeracy programming
  • Work collaboratively with the administrators of the Summer Learning Program, Summer School and Summer Transition Program to provide support to students participating in these programs
  • Assist with completion of registration forms and transition to our Catholic schools
  • Plan and facilitate student centred, engaging activities that build confidence, and support successful transitions to school

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two of either Primary/Junior/Intermediate/Senior qualifications in any subject area
  • Teacher English Language Learners, Pt. 1

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Religious Education, Part 1
  • Special Education, Part 1

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Knowledge/familiarity of Google Classroom and Google Translate
  • Familiarity with the STEP assessment and the HSCDSB Multilingual Learners Guide for Elementary Schools
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to connect with various members of our community
  • Ability to travel within the jurisdiction the Board

This position is open to permanent and occasional teachers currently employed by the Board.
