POSITION:  Network and Telecommunication Analyst

LOCATION:  Information Technology Department, 100A Ontario Avenue, Sault Ste. Marie, ON (on-site)

EFFECTIVE DATE:  March 2024 

SCHEDULE:  35 hours/week, 12 months/year, non-union

SALARY RANGE:  $72,216 – $79,076 annual

Reporting to the Supervisor of Information Technology/System Administrator, the Network and Telecommunication Analyst applies advanced technical knowledge and expertise in the design, planning, and deployment of a broad range of network systems and applications. Primary responsibilities include supporting networking, groupware, and telecommunication systems. The incumbent will be responsible for providing IT support ensuring everyday service requests relating to network and telecommunications are resolved in a timely manner (Level II Support). In addition, the Network and Telecommunication Analyst will be responsible for interacting and consulting with stakeholders to provide guidance, training, and follow-up on system needs or inquiries. This position exercises considerable independent judgment in completing responsibilities in accordance with departmental objectives.

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Reviews, evaluates, and recommends network software and hardware applications
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies, and procedures for all related systems
  • Creates and maintains accurate and up-to-date network documentation
  • Oversee the following systems:
  • Network Systems
    • Design, implement, document, and maintain wired and wireless networks with a strong emphasis on security
    • Configure and maintain network devices such as switches, routers, wireless access points
    • Oversee cabling and patch panel management
    • Troubleshoot LAN and WAN connectivity and performance issues
    • Configure traffic shaping and redundancy to achieve acceptable quality of service levels
    • Network Monitoring
    • Manage DNS, DHCP, and WINS network services
  • Groupware
    • Configure, maintain, and manage policies for anti-spam systems
    • Integrate wireless devices such as PDAs, smart phones, and other devices
  • Telecommunications
    • Manage and support the Mitel Voice over IP telephone system
    • Manage and support school intercoms and paging systems such as Dukane, Carehawk and Revolution

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three-year college diploma or university degree or equivalent work experience
  • Five years of previous experience and capability of providing level II support
  • Strong knowledge of secure network practices
  • Knowledge of a broad range of information technologies including, but not limited to: software applications, computer networks, operating systems, database systems, and the configuration/maintenance of computer systems
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and use them to improve current infrastructure
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic self-empowered environment and participate concurrently on multiple projects
  • Skilled at developing accurate time estimates and documentation
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly the ability to make formal presentations, read and interpret specialized technical documentation, and compose business proposals related to systems analysis and project management
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License
