Reading Intervention Specialist Teachers (up to two additional positions) [REPOST]

START DATE: September 2024 (NOTE: this position is for the 2024-2025 school year. The successful applicants will have the option to return to their current placement at the end of the school year, if they choose)
The Board is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, creative, organized and professional Catholic educator who is able to work effectively with the staff, students, parents, and communities in the Board. Regular travel within the Board’s jurisdiction is a requirement. The Reading Interventions Special Assignment Teacher is a school-based position and is responsible for:
- Planning and providing literacy and language curriculum instruction to students in Grade 1, Grade 2, and Year 2 of Kindergarten classes, while the classroom teacher administers the first Early Reading Screener to individual students (up to November 15th of the year);
- Providing direct Tier 2 and Tier 3 reading interventions to students in Kindergarten to Grade 3, and other supports as required by the school or Board on reading and literacy-related initiatives;
- Completing the year-end screening for students who did not meet benchmark in the fall screening and who are receiving additional support from a Reading Intervention Special Assignment Teacher;
- Coach, provide resources to, and collaborate with primary classroom educators to identify students’ strengths and needs and determine appropriate interventions when applicable, including consulting and collaborating with Special Education teachers, and/or Speech Language Pathologists
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Qualifications in primary division
- Religious Education in Catholic Schools, Part 1
- Specialized expertise in scientific, evidence-based literacy instruction that emphasizes foundational knowledge and skills, as well as training in providing direct Tier 2 and Tier 3 reading interventions
- An awareness and experience with evidence-based assessments that inform intensity, duration and frequency of instruction, to assist the student in developing the required foundational skills
- Expertise in a comprehensive approach to systematic and tiered literacy instruction, incorporating Universal Design for Learning and differentiated instruction at Tier 1, targeted instruction of moderate intensity in the classroom at Tier 2, and most intensive and individualized Tier 3 instruction supports
- Experience working with teachers to monitor progress towards improvement targets and supporting them to adapt instruction
- Knowledge of and experience in teaching the Ontario Language curriculum
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Special Education, Part 1
- Religious Education in Catholic Schools, Specialist
- Reading, Part 1
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Familiar with utilizing virtual platforms such as Google Meet/Classrooms, Microsoft Teams
This position is currently open to all OCT-certified applicants and will be considered in this order: i) permanent teachers currently employed by the board; ii) occasional teachers currently employed by the board; iii) external OCT-certified teachers.
