POSITION: Speech Language Pathologist
TYPE: Non-Union, Full-time or Part-time
LOCATION: Various schools in Sault Ste. Marie and communities we serve to our North and East.
EFFECTIVE DATE: October 2023
END DATE: June 28, 2024
Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) provide a wide variety of communication-enhancing interventions and supports through their work with individual students, groups of students, and educator teams, both inside and outside the classroom. Reporting to the Special Education Co-ordinator and Superintendent responsible for Special Education, the Speech Language Pathologist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to improve student outcomes.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Assessment of speech and/or language skills of students who are referred for service
- Consultation and/or direct service to classes, small groups or individual students
- Development of strategies and programming (treatment plans) to support language, literacy and communication goals
- Supervision of Communication Disorder Assistants implementing treatment plans
- Setting up communication systems including alternative, augmentative systems using technology
- Meetings with multidisciplinary or school-based teams to determine collaborative response to student needs
- Initiate, where appropriate, referrals to School Therapy Services
- Initiate, where appropriate, recommendations for resources and equipment to aid students in their development of language and communication skills
- Plan, implement and monitor in-service, staff development and networking in response to system demands
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master’s degree or equivalent in speech-language pathology and must be registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
- Experience with school-aged children is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required
