SALARY RANGE: $103,634 – $116,574 annual (12-Month Non-Union)
Reporting to the Manager of Information Technology, the Systems Administrator/Technical Supervisor is responsible for the smooth delivery of information technology (IT) operational services and the supervision of IT staff. The incumbent ensures the effective coordination of technology deployments and solutions delivery projects. This position is responsible for all servers, storage, virtualization, cloud and software systems deployed by the Board. Further it provides IT support by resolving higher complex problems (Level III) and addresses everyday service requests relating to workstations, servers, network, and software as well as interacting with clients to provide guidance, training, and follow-up.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS
System Administration
- Manage the implementation, operation, and maintenance of the Board’s network data communications infrastructure and the servers (onsite & cloud) that house business applications.
- Manage all system patches and updates as it relates to network and system infrastructure.
- Oversee backup and disaster recovery processes.
- Maintain fluency in Windows Server technologies including Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Hyper-V, Clustering, ADFS, and group/security policies.
- Manage Office 365 Infrastructure and data.
Security and Data Protection
- Design and implement security solutions to protect the Board’s network and system infrastructure and business data.
- Install and configure firewalls and remote access servers.
Team Supervision
- Manage the work of IT staff and provide training and development, as needed.
Research, Design and Documentation
- Research, design, and recommend to IT Manager and Superintendents, the technology solutions (onsite/cloud) needed to address business requirements and maintain optimal performance of the Board’s systems and networks infrastructure.
QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS REQUIRED
- Post-secondary degree in Computer Science.
- Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in the delivery of information technology services is required including supervisory experience; prior experience within the public sector is preferred.
- Capability of providing Level III technical support.
- SQL certification with a strong knowledge of secure database practices.
- Experience with Windows Server technologies including Active Directory, LDAP, scripting, and group/security policies.
- Proficient with a variety of programming languages.
- Knowledge of a broad range of information technologies including, but not limited to software applications, computer networks, operating systems, database systems, and the configuration/maintenance of computer systems.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and use them to improve current infrastructure.
- High level computer skills, including advanced Excel and Word in Microsoft Office, broad spectrum of technical hardware and software, Google programs and electronic databases.
- Must demonstrate discretion in dealing with sensitive/confidential matters and exhibit a high level of confidentiality.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills with ability to multi-task.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works in an office environment.
- Works in a front-line and leadership capacity with responsibility for supervising and developing staff.
- Regular exposure to on-call requirements.
- Occasional travel may be required to schools within the city.
- May be required to work more than 35 hours a week to fulfil responsibilities in a timely manner.
