What is the direction of school Support?

In Ontario, property owners and tenants can choose which publicly funded school board they support through their school support designation.

Direction of School Support refers to choosing to support the English Separate (Catholic) School System — a meaningful way to help sustain Catholic education in our communities.

Even if you do not have children enrolled in Catholic schools, your support as a Catholic ratepayer plays an important role in the long-term viability of Catholic education.

How to Check or Change Your School Support

By directing your school support to the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board, you:

  • Demonstrate support for publicly funded Catholic education in Ontario.
  • Help determine the number of trustees elected to serve your region in municipal elections.
  • Strengthen the voice and influence of Catholic education at the local level.

You are eligible to direct school support even if:

  • You do not have children currently enrolled in Catholic schools.
  • You have previously supported Catholic education, but have moved since your last declaration.

Note: Your school support designation does not automatically transfer when you move to a new property. A new direction of school support must be filed each time you relocate.
