The board sends its condolences and prayers to the family of Carmelina Fascina-Purificati, who passed into God’s loving arms on May 30, 2024.

Carmelina, a dedicated teacher for 30 years, was a beacon of knowledge and inspiration. Her commitment to her students and colleagues was extraordinary, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals in her educational community. She was known for her selflessness, always going above and beyond for staff and students.  Her immense heart and easygoing nature made her a beloved figure in our community.

Carmelina began her career with the former Sault Ste. Marie Roman Catholic Separate School Board in 1989 at DC Thorp. She also taught at St. Mary’s French Immersion, Holy Family, and St. Pius X before retiring in 2019. Her work in the Special Education Department, particularly with assistive technology, brought about significant positive changes in the learning environment for students with disabilities, a legacy that continues to inspire.

“Carmelina was an assistive technology teacher in the Special Education Department for many years.  She was a kind and caring person who enjoyed helping others. Her beautiful smile and generous personality will never be forgotten. May her soul rest in the Lord’s loving arms, and may the prayerful support from our board community bring her family comfort,” said Special Education Coordinator, Rosanne Zagordo.
