Our Traditions

St. Mary’s College has created a legacy of many fine traditions giving our students the opportunity to be enriched with many experiences that are a result of our spirit, our passion and our values.

We have many events during the first week of the school year.  Welcome Week, organized by Student Council and Link Crew, welcomes Grade 9 students with exciting events and activities – a great way for students to build friendships and experience the SMC spirit.  The annual East/West football game kicks off the season with great football and outstanding school spirit.

SMC is a family that is about helping other families, be they local, regional, national or international.  Over the past decades SMC Knights have traveled to countries in the global south to assist in a wide variety of projects.  These trips give students an opportunity to learn about other cultures and see first-hand the challenge people in such countries face on a day-to-day basis.

Locally, one of the most prominent and enduring SMC traditions is the Heaven Cent campaign.  This student-driven fundraising campaign is held during Advent and features different events.  Money from within the school and out in the community is raised prior to the Christmas Break.  Recipients of the funds are chosen by students and range from local charities to individuals in need.  Since its inception, the Heaven Cent campaign has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities.

There are many other traditions that we have here at SMC.  We are confident that you will find something that fits your style and helps you to become an enthusiastic member of the Knights family.
