French Immersion

In our current global economy, the acquisition of a second language is a skill that will ensure that your son or daughter is prepared to compete and excel in their future endeavours. 

St. Mary’s College offers excellent courses for students wishing to continue their education in French Immersion and for those who have chosen French Immersion as a complement to their earlier French first language education .

Our French Immersion program encourages students to develop the oral and written skills necessary to become fully bilingual.

The Ministry of Education states that students must earn a minimum of 10 credits in French Immersion to earn a “ Bilingual Certificate – Completion for French Immersion Program” upon graduation.  Here at St. Mary’s College our teachers have developed a variety of courses that prepare students to exchange ideas and engage in conversations that provide a catalyst for the development of the skills necessary to achieve this certification.

For a richer experience in the language we encourage our students to complete more than the required 10 credits in French Immersion by choosing to take elective courses in French as well as opportunities to travel to French speaking countries and communities with our school. 

Students who are enrolled in our French Immersion program are provided with an opportunity to challenge the DELF – an internationally recognized French language proficiency test and their success is a testament to the richness of our dynamic French language program.
