POSITION: STEAM Lab Technician (VEX Robotics Champion)
LOCATION: Holy Angels Learning Centre (STEAM Lab) and various schools within the Board
SCHEDULE: Part time – 30 hours per week from December to May 2025. Afternoons with the possibility of some evenings and weekends (excluding Board holidays)
RATE OF PAY: $31.00/hour
EFFECTIVE: December 1, 2025
The Board is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative VEX Robotics Champion (Lab Tech) to lead and support robotics programming across our schools. The successful candidate will work with students and staff to build capacity in robotics, coding, and design, and will serve as a mentor and resource for school-based robotics teams preparing for VEX competitions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Keeping the VEX arena and design spaces organized and functional at the STEAM Lab and at schools.
- Supporting programming at the STEAM Lab.
- Set up/take-down for various programming and events.
- Completing an inventory of all materials (robotics as well as consumables) required for programming.
- Replenishing/requesting ordering of programming materials as needed and making repair service requests as needed.
- As directed, working with students during lab sessions, circulating amongst students to answer questions, attending off-site activities and events with students/staff.
- Lead and support VEX Robotics initiatives across multiple schools in the board.
- Coach and mentor student robotics teams in design, coding, engineering, and problem-solving.
- Facilitate workshops, after-school programs, and practice sessions to strengthen student skills.
- Collaborate with teachers, coaches, and school staff to build confidence and knowledge in robotics and coding.
- Support schools in preparing for local, regional, and provincial VEX Robotics competitions.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and organize robotics equipment and software as needed.
- Stay current with robotics education best practices, competition updates, and new technologies.
- Other duties and events as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma at a university or college level.
- A valid driver’s license and ability to travel between school sites.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to collaborate with staff and motivate students.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Possess a good knowledge of robotics and coding.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to move robotics and other equipment and be on your feet for prolonged durations.
- Ability to organize and maintain efficient set up/take down of a lab.
- Knowledge of Google Classroom, LMS and other virtual platforms.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting is considered an asset.
