POSITION: Special Assignment Teacher – Learning Resource Teacher, Special Education Transition Navigator (0.5 FTE)

LOCATION: St. Mary’s College, Sault Ste. Marie, ON

EFFECTIVE DATE: September 2026

ANNUALIZED SALARY: $52,971 – $119,945 (to be pro-rated based on FTE)

Reporting to the Principal, the Learning Resource Teacher (LRT) – Special Education Transition Navigator will enhance transition practices for students with special education needs and/or disabilities into, during and out of school. The LRT – Special Education Transition Navigator will work collaboratively with special education program staff, as well as with community agencies and employers to support students with special education needs and/or disabilities in their transition into school, between schools and from secondary school to post-secondary pathways and share best practices/resources/tools that will help support successful transitions. The LRT – Special Education Transition Navigator will also assist special education and K-course teachers with the development and implementation of IEPs and alternative learning expectations, as well as lead case conferences, hold IPRC meetings, prepare referrals for special education services, facilitate integration opportunities for students in special education classes and liaise with Special Education Department staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Intermediate and Senior Division
  • Special Education, Part 1 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Special Education Specialist
  • Guidance, Part 1
  • Religious Education, Part 1
  • Co-operative Education, Part 1

This position is currently open to all internal, permanent teachers, as part of the 2026-2027 OECTA staffing process.
